Details: | on 2/12/2024 EPA Region 10 office forwarded a complaint they received via email for the Lanai Apartments at 170 Owens St. S Salem, OR. The complaint stated “I have spoken with tenants who say they are always thirsty, the water makes their throat and lungs irritated, causing them to cough uncontrollably, the shower water dries out their skins and gives them red splotchy areas along with red stains on the bathtub. Also, the local Salem police department is bullying and harassing homeless veterans, other recovering drug addicts and following them into their respective businesses and taking their belongs at homeless encampments and throwing it into protected bodies of water. I have submitted the complaint to the city of Salem but due to my concerns and specialty as a CESCL certified of WA so my certification follows me to Oregon, so due to my recommendation and experience, I don't think the city of Salem has done enough to ensure safe quality drinking potable water. And I believe these infractions require the EPA to show up and do their due diligence and due process thank you.” DWS tried calling the property management company but did not reach the current manager. DWS then contacted the water system's operator and water quality manager who is following up on the complaint let DWS know that she was not able to reach the property management company with the phone number listed on google and that she is sending a water quality technician out to the apartment office to follow up and get more information on the complaint. Office did not provide additional information. |
