Details: Background/Problem Identification:

Tonya Stratton of Adel School-SD21 Schoolhouse contacted the Circuit Rider (CR) to request additional operational assistance with resolving performance issues with their chlorination system. An initial support effort resulted with the CR concluding that the chlorination system would likely need to be overhauled or replaced due to a significant period of inactivity.

Assistance Provided:

Over a 2-month period, the CR engaged in numerous communications with Stenner Pumps – Technical Support and Travis Koefoed at Adel School to diagnose operational issues with various components of the chlorination system. This included providing Travis with step-by-step troubleshooting instructions and identifying suppliers for replacement parts. Also, during this time, the CR worked with Stenner Pumps to develop initial setup parameters intended to achieve the desired free chlorine residual concentration in the distribution system.

After charging the chlorine solution tank and powering up the system, there were additional performance issues that required the CR to assist with diagnostics and part-replacement recommendations. Success was finally achieved in early February when Travis reported that he measured a free chlorine residual concentration of 0.3 mg/L at a sink in the school.

The CR provided Travis with additional guidance to help him fine tune the chlorination system and steps to take to ensure the required free chlorine residuals are maintained. Travis expressed his appreciation for all the support. In the opinion of the CR, the WS is well positioned to manage their operation going forward.
