Details: | Lacey notified OHA that total microcystins were detected at 0.604 ug/L in a raw water sample collected Monday 6/10/24 and at 0.468 ug/L in a sample collected Tuesday 6/11/24 (both samples were analyzed by their lab on 6/11/24). As a result, required raw water monitoring frequency has been increased to weekly. An entry point (finished water) sample must be collected within 1 business day and entry point monitoring continue weekly going forward. Informed Lacey of monitoring schedule change and she confirmed they will collect and analyze a finished water sample Wednesday 6/12/24. Salem voluntarily monitors raw water more frequently than required by rule (currently 5 times a week). They have been operating their ozone treatment all season and plan to increase the dose, as well as increase their post-chlorination dose. Update 6/13/24: finished water sample from yesterday 6/12/24 was non-detect. Update 7/15/24: OHA recommended all downstream PWSs increase chlorine residuals and review optimization guidance due to elevated levels of raw water microcytins reported by Salem for sample collected Sunday 7/14/24 (14.332 ug/L). Checked in with Lacey and she indicated staff are managing the incoming toxin by utilizing roughing filters, ozone, finished filters, and chlorination and treatment seems to be working well. Update 9/9/24: Salem qualifies to cease finished water monitoring and return to routine every-2-week raw water monitoring only. Operator notified this date. |
