Details: | David Orchard (on site operator) phoned asking whether BBR could now get a reduction in the DBP sampling schedule. Because the average of the last 4 quarters is low enough, yes, they can. I sent the change request to our data entry folks. The new DBP monitoring schedule will be one dual sample per year, collected in the month of September. September has typically been one of the highest months on record for DBPs – probably because the water flow is low/less dilution, plus there’s high organic content with the leaf fall. The lower results that David has achieved since assuming the operator's role are impressive. I expect that dialing down the amount of pre-chlorination, and adding back the post-chlorination application has made a big difference. David also asked about calibrating their turbidimeter because Hach notified them they are increasing their fee for that service. David has seen instructions in the Hach owner's manual. We discussed that they will need a set of primary calibration standards to do it themselves, and these expire each year. It is also possible to make one's own calibration standards, if an operator invests in the products needed to make them and is willing to put in the time and effort. David will look into it. David is currently studying to take the Level 1 operator's exam. |
