Assistance Type: | OTHER REGULATORY - Customer complaint - high water bill due to leak | ||
Details: | 07.05.2024 - I informed the operator that I received an email from a customer of Langlois water district regarding their high-water bills. The customer stated that their normal average bill is $80 per month. However, they recently got a bill for $1000. The water district informed the customer that there was a leak. The customer checked the property but was unable to locate any leaks. Then the following month they received another bill for $560. In addition to that, their water rate increased from 35 to 40. The customer reported that City workers recently came out and changed the meter following the last bill. The customer received an additional fee for the new meter and was never notified of the change. I advised the customer to contact the Langlois water district board members, or City administrator and ask for a leak forgiveness. Some cities have a leak forgiveness program. Langlois may consider forgiving part of the bill if the customer provides evidence (receipts) that they have hired a plumber or a leak detection specialist to come out, detect the leak, and fix the issue. The customer was also advised to use a licensed plumber to fix the leak is advisable. |
