Details: | Total microcystins were detected at 0.28 ug/L in Gates' weekly finished water sample collected Monday 7/1/24 (raw water sample collected 7/1/24 showed total microcystins at 7.91 ug/L). The finished water result does not exceed the 0.3 ug/L health advisory level for vulnerable populations so does not require a confirmation sample be collected or issuance of a public notice at this time. As a result, monitoring of the raw water has been increased to daily starting within 24 hours. Gates is starting daily finished water monitoring (EP-A) on Friday 7/5/24 (the next day the treatment plant will be running) and will collect finished water samples going forward on days the treatment plant is running (currently every other day). Operator informed of schedule change this date and they indicated they will collect and freeze a sample Friday 7/5/24 and Sunday 7/7/24, and ship the finished water samples Monday 7/8/24 along with 7/8/24 raw & finished samples. Update 7/15/24: OHA recommended all downstream PWSs increase chlorine residuals and review optimization guidance due to elevated levels of raw water microcytins reported by Salem for sample collected Sunday 7/14/24 (14.332 ug/L). Gates has already increased their chlorine residual due to finished water detections. Greg indicated their chlorine residual is currently at 3.1 ppm. Update 7/16/24: operator was notified he can return to weekly finished water monitoring after two samples collected 7/8 and 7/9 at the entry point were non-detect. |
