Details: | - 07.12.2024 Watsonville public water system is located east of CBNB water service area. Watsonville is currently on a boil water advisory due to their lack of surface water treatment. Watsonville is relatively close to Coos Bay - North Bend (CBNB) Water Board service area. Given their proximity, a consolidation project may be an option to help the system resolve their compliance issues. I contacted CBNB's general manger to inquire their plans for expanding their distribution system eastward. CBNB informed me that the Water Board has no plans to extend its system that far east, as Watsonville’s system is located 3000 feet beyond their service boundary. From a business standpoint, extending the distribution over 0.5 miles for 10 service connections is not financially feasible. Water sales revenue would not cover the cost of infrastructure construction or replacement. Any new infrastructure would need to adhere to Water Board specifications. Additionally, from a hydraulic perspective, it would likely take more than just installation of water main extension to service the Watsonville system. While water pressure would not be a concern, existing CBNB infrastructure would have to be replaced. CBNB manager estimated the cost of the project to be between $500,000 and $1,000,000. As an alternative, CBNB manager indicated that they might be willing to sell a smaller meter if Watsonville could come up with a hydraulic solution. This arrangement would resemble the one CBNB currently has with Country Club Estes PWS 01501. Further discussions are necessary to assess the feasibility of this option. |
