Assistance Type: OTHER REGULATORY - Elevated microcystins in North Santiam River
Reasons: Cyanotoxins

Details: OHA recommended all downstream PWSs increase chlorine residuals and review optimization guidance due to elevated levels of raw water microcytins reported by Salem for sample collected Sunday 7/14/24 (14.332 ug/L). Scott responded that they will increase chlorine residual at the Albany Millersburg treatment plant (WTP-B). The plant, though technically on the Santiam River, gets most of its raw water from the South Santiam since it draws on the south side of the river, just a few yards from the confluence. There have been no raw water cyanotoxin detects at Albany in routine monitoring this year.
