Assistance Type: | OTHER REGULATORY - Elevated microcystins in North Santiam River | ||
Reasons: | Cyanotoxins |
||
Details: | OHA recommended all downstream PWSs increase chlorine residuals and review optimization guidance due to elevated levels of raw water microcytins reported by Salem for sample collected Sunday 7/14/24 (14.332 ug/L). Scott responded that they will increase chlorine residual at the Albany Millersburg treatment plant (WTP-B). The plant, though technically on the Santiam River, gets most of its raw water from the South Santiam since it draws on the south side of the river, just a few yards from the confluence. There have been no raw water cyanotoxin detects at Albany in routine monitoring this year. UPDATE 7/17/24: due to OHA issuing a recreational use advisory for Detroit Lake and the North Santiam River, Albany is required to increase raw water monitoring frequency to weekly. Operator notified this date. Update 9/5/24: upstream Rec HABs advisory lifted, raw water monitoring schedule changed to every two weeks. Operator notified of monitoring schedule change this date. |
