| Details: | 10.02.2024-Susan emailed a copy of the lab results for the nitrate sample collected on 09.10.2024. Lab results show that nitrate concentration is at 1.44 mg per liter. The MCL for nitrate in drinking water in Oregon is 10 mg per liter. The system also reported a coliform sample that tested E. Coli positive. The sample was collected on September 10, 2024, and reported to DMCE on September 11, 2024. The system has been on a boil water advisory since 06.10.2019. Several homes have installed point of use filtration and UV. 09.03.2024-Susan and I spoke about aspects of the water system and the administrative order issued by OHA. Susan clarified that Upper Coos River Water Association (UCRWA) is only a small portion of the homes served by the larger water system, and several other properties also receive water from the system. Some properties within the UCRWA don't even use the water from the system for human consumption and have either a private well or a different surface water source. UCRWA doesn't own all of the water system facilities and doesn't own or have legal access to the property where the source water impoundment is located. UCRWA was formed for the specific intent of transferring a portion of the water right for the impoundment so the six homes would have legal right to use the water. Susan stated that UCRWA has not issued public notices to other residents and has simply received postcards stating the water system was in violation. She promised to collect a sample for coliform bacteria and nitrate to resolve the past monitoring violations. |
