Details: | Spoke with Tyson today regarding raw water turbidity levels and operations during the drawdown. Tyson indicated their raw water is currently 57 NTU and they are able to make compliant finished water at this time. We reviewed regulatory limits for membrane filtration and discussed the need to communicate with us if they are seeing any early indication of treatment failures. Tyson indicated that the drawdown met its lowest elevation goal on Sunday Nov 10 and the Army Corps is planning to keep this elevation for 30 days to help juvenile fish pass through the dam and continue downstream. I asked if there is a good time to meet this week and discuss the drawdown impacts, current conditions, see if there is any precursors or indicators that may lead to a system failure and review membrane filter regulatory requirements. Tyson indicated they don't have time to meet with us as they are short staffed, and they will keep us updated if anything changes. Tyson said they are already operating their membrane filters beyond their manufactured warranty limit (raw water above 50 NTU for over 48 hours duration) so membrane failure can happen anytime. We have encouraged Lebanon several times to join ORWARN for mutual aid support during emergencies, but it doesn't appear Lebanon is an ORWARN member currently. We will continue to communicate clearly and frequently with Lebanon during the drawdown. |
