Details: | A customer of TWD reached out to DWS staff with concerns about arsenic. The customer had their water tested in mid-September and found arsenic levels slightly above the MCL (0.0171 mg/L). TWD purchases water from the City of Tillamook (00893), a system with a consistent record of non-detection for arsenic, including the most recent entry point sample collected in 2019. The source of arsenic is unknown and DWS staff discussed sampling protocols with the customer. With the support of their regulator, TCHD, DWS staff recommended that TWD voluntarily sample water on their side of the meter to confirm the absence of arsenic in the water they provide and to address customer concerns. On 11/19/24, DWS staff engaged in a conversation with the system operator, who confirmed awareness of the issue and shared the proactive measures already put in place to address it. The system operator outlined plans to collect three arsenic samples: one at the entry point, one from within the distribution system, and one from the tap of the concerned customer. DWS staff recognized and commended these efforts, agreeing that sampling at these key locations will help provide valuable reassurance to customers regarding water safety. Additionally, the approach will allow for effective tracing of any potential issues, ensuring that both customer concerns are addressed and water quality remains within safe parameters. |
