Details: | Dan Vaage made a site visit on 10/30/2018 and determined that the flow problem was likely due to a very old ¾” galvanized service lateral. Dan spoke with onsite representatives from the Carolina Water System, a service tech from Judson’s Plumbing, the Tennant of the property, and an Agent from the property management company. Judson’s plumbing had uncovered the shutoff valve adjacent to the house, one side of which was the poor condition galvanized service lateral, the other side of the valve was ¾” copper leading to the crawlspace under the residence. It is assumed that the copper line is in good condition and not a source of flow constriction in the system. The ¾” line in question runs approximately 100’ east from the main on Ella Lane along the south side of the property. Water pressure was measured at 60psi, and with an open hose bib, flow decreased to a trickle after about 10 seconds. Pressure and flow were tested on the house directly to the north (further downstream on the water main). Pressure at this location was 68psi, and the flow was constant and very strong. Based on Dan’s observations onsite, it is recommended that the owner of the property replace the service lateral from the 2” main at the street to the shutoff valve location to restore adequate flow to the residence. |
