Details: | 04.22.2025 - Soda ash pump replacement The operator emailed me inquiring whether or not a soda ash pump replacement would need to be NSF certified. The operator was advised that the pump must be replaced with an NSF Standard 61 certified pump. This requirement is clearly outlined in Oregon Administrative Rule OAR 333-061-0087(5): Materials and products which come into contact with drinking water supplied by public water systems, or which come into contact with drinking water treatment chemicals used at public water systems must be certified to NSF Standard 61: Drinking Water System Components - Health Effects or equivalent. These materials and products include but are not limited to process media, protective materials, joining and sealing materials, pipes and related products, and mechanical devices used in treatment, transmission, and distribution systems. As a mechanical device used in the treatment system (for soda ash injection), the replacement pump falls under this requirement. Therefore, ensure that the new soda ash pump is certified to NSF Standard 61. |
