Details: | Sea Crest water quality complaint 04.07.2024 The operator reached out via email with concerns regarding the level of disinfection and requested guidance on how to proceed, suggesting draining, cleaning, and inspecting the tank to ensure it is watertight. He also inquired if the situation requires additional testing. Next steps: the operator was instructed to inspect the tank and seal up any direct path of contamination into the tank. Cleaning and shocking the system was also recommended. Health concerns should be addressed with your doctor. 03-21-2025 - I was notified by DEQ drinking water protection program of a customer complaint regarding the water quality at Sea Crest. The complain was about the operator being told to put bleach into the water tanks the day before taking water samples. - I contacted the operator and provided guidance regarding their water system operations. The operator was instructed to cease the practice of directly adding chlorine into their water storage tank or well. This practice is not allowed due to the potential for modification of water samples leading to inaccurate results and potentially masking underlaying water quality issues. Also, uncontrolled chlorination can lead to the formation of disinfection byproducts. If the water system is concerned with stagnate water and coliform growth in their distribution system, the system can reach out to me (the regulator) and we can coordinate the steps the system needs to take to install residual maintenance chlorination. - Additional guidance was provided for cases when the system experience zero pressure in the water lines. |
