Details: | 2025 PWS Survey 07.21.2025 Operator provided photo documentation of the corrective actions taken by the system. -Drain line on Adam's tank not protected with screen or flap valve: The operator dug out the overflow pipe on Adams Water Storage Tank and installed a flap on the line. -Wellhead not protected from flooding: The electrical conduit in well vault was sealed up. It is important to note that the operator was advised by the regional DWS plan review engineer to install appropriate watertight electrical fittings on the open electrical conduits in the well vault. However, the system chose to seal the electrical conduits in the well vault with a polymer caulking compound. The operator reported during a phone conversation that this specific caulking compound was recommended by a certified electrician. The product specifications indicate it is crack-resistant, mildew-resistant, mold-resistant, and waterproof. Its technical specifications also state it is FDA 21 CFR and UL Classified. The Polymer Caulking Compound is not NSF/ANSI 61 certified. NSF/ANSI 61 is the industry standard for materials in contact with drinking water, ensuring they do not leach harmful contaminants. While FDA 21 CFR compliance relates to food contact (which includes water generally), NSF/ANSI 61 is specifically designed for drinking water system components. DWS advise the operator to inspect the sealant at least annually, as sealants are not a long-term waterproofing solution and degrade (oxidize, shrink, and crack) over time. Furthermore, the operator is advised to seek final approval for these repairs from their local electrical permit jurisdiction, given that this is primarily a watertight electrical code issue. 04.30.2025 Survey site visit conducted on 04.24.2025 Operator and DMCE notified on 04.30.2025 Corrective actions for significant deficiencies and rule violations due on 09.03.2025 No updates to inventory. |
