Assistance Type: | OTHER REGULATORY - IFE Valve Issue Causing Turbidity Spikes | ||
Reasons: | SWTR |
||
Details: | Kim called DWS to discuss an operational issue at the "Old Plant". A mechanical issue with the individual filter effluent (IFE) valves is causing them to open suddenly instead of in a slow controlled manner. When they suddenly open fully when the IFE drops to 0.1 NTU after a backwash, it causes a sudden increase in the filter loading rate and a turbidity spike. The spikes are brief and none have occurred during the 4-hour readings in the monthly report. Parts are on order to repair the valves. Operators will use vigilance to manage the valves until repairs are completed. No further action needed at this time. |
