Details: | SCADA System Downtime and Data Loss On May 29th the SCADA system crashed that prevented the plant from being able to start up. The caused of the crash was due to issues with the server. With assistance from S&B Inc. tech support, operators were able to restore plant operations by mid-morning. The recovery process involved restarting the WinCC project, virtual machine, and host server, successfully bringing WinCC back online. However, on the morning of May 30th, it was discovered that no trend data was available for the period from 9:10 AM on May 29th through 8:30 AM on May 30th. Further investigation confirmed that tag data was not being stored or archived during this time. Attempts to shut down the WinCC project to rectify this were unsuccessful, requiring a forced project reset and a restart of the SCADA virtual machine. This action successfully restored data archiving. Fortunately, turbidity and chlorine analyzers were not affected by the SCADA downtime and data loss. Benchtop readings for turbidity and chlorine will be used to report CT requirements for May 29th. Additionally, data stored on the HACH SC controllers may be available. Based on the information provided by the operator, no Tier 2 public notification is required. |
