Details: | Received an email from the Public Health Phone Duty Officer, Kristen Darmody, regarding a phone call from Michael Bollweg, DRC for the City of Rogue River. The DRC for the water system called to inform Drinking Water Services that they had a high residual chlorine level in the distribution system. Mr. Bollweg was called regarding the incident and he explained that they were in the process of starting up the surface water treatment plant and slug of treated water with a high concentration (5.7 mg/L) of chlorine was released into the distribution system as a result of delay between the point of measurement and CL17 chlorine meter. He indicated that the plant was immediately shut down the the distribution system between the plant and first non-plant user was flushed. The highest level measured in the blow off was 3.7 mg/L and the residual in the distribution is measuring 0.8 mg/L. Mr. Bollweg is confident that the slug of high chlorine did not make it to any customers. Mr. Bollweg was also informed that a public notice would not need to be issued unless the system exceeded the Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL) chlorine which is 4.0 mg/L (see OAR 333-061-00310 and OAR 333-061-0036 (i). |
