Details: | 08.14.2025 -The system had a TC positive on August 5th. Two repeat samples collected on August 11th tested positive for TC but absent of E. Coli. I clarified to the operator that a boil water advisory is not required at this time since the system did not test E. Coli positive. Next steps: Conduct a Level 1 Coliform Investigation: Since the system had a TC+ routine sample and at least one TC+ repeat sample, a Level 1 Assessment is required under the RTC Rule. This is a mandatory investigation to identify and correct any sanitary defects or conditions that may have caused the contaminations. I clarified to the operator that it is no advisable to shock chlorinate the entire active distribution system. This is generally not an effective method for addressing contamination in a live system and can create potential health and taste-odor issues for customers due to high chlorine levels and disinfection byproducts. Instead, the operator must focus on identifying and repairing any sanitary defects found during your Level 1 Assessment. If a specific section of the distribution system (e.g., a main break repair) is identified as the source of the contamination, that section should be isolated, flushed, and disinfected using OHA-approved procedures before being returned to service. |
