Details: | Discussed future plans for Salem to construct a second emergency intertie with Keizer. One emergency intertie is already available at Cherry Ave and another will be constructed at Weissner Ave. Both interties are coming straight from Keizer's distribution system, a mix of wells. Cherry Intertie: was last exercised March 2025 where roughly 11 MG was sent to Salem's distribution, Salem collected DBPs, lead and copper, chlorine residual and coliform results. Alkalinity from Keizer was much higher than Salem's regular distribution water while pH was similar to Salem's water. Cherry Ave intertie has a tablet chlorination system, chlorine analyzer, connected to SCADA which has high and low chlorine alarms and shutoff if residuals is out of set range. Salem will need to find out what wells are typically used during winter months and determine if there is enough ph, calcium, and alkalinity data from Keizer to see if corrosion control treatment is necessary considering the emergency intertie could potentially be used for ~45-60 days during the planned Detroit Lake Drawdowns conducted by US Army Corps. Cherry intertie would likely need corrosion control treatment option as well. |
