Details: | On Monday morning (3-11-19),I received a call from the operator of pws #01032. He had attempted to contact me last week on 3-7-19 but we never connected. Storage tank #2 was scheduled for an interior resurfacing. This was completed by a contractor approximately one month ago. The operator had confirmed prior to the resurfacing that the substance was NSF certified. On Tuesday night (3/5), the operator received a complaint from a resident that the water smelled like chemicals. Neilson Laboratory sent one of their technicians out the next morning to get a sample from the storage tank. After which it was taken offline. The operator’s corrective action plan to resolve this issue: A letter has been sent to all residents explaining what has occurred and what is being done. Contractor to assess the current interior coating to determine the next steps. Operator to follow up with me. Once the interior has been assessed and stabilized the storage tank will be filled and allowed to sit offline for approximately 2 weeks. Testing will be conducted for VOCs. Once these test results are available they will be submit to OHA-DWS. Only after these results has been reviewed by regulatory staff will this tank be brought back online. There are two complaints of illness associated with this event. The symptoms are dissimilar from each other, one being 2 days of vomiting and diarrhea, the second with joint pain and confusing. Both complainants state that their symptoms have subsided since the water from the storage tank was taken off line. |
