Details: | Continued conversation with Dave and Steve regarding the installation of a new nitrate treatment system to mitigate high nitrates. Dave called me 3/19 and informed that Lapine Plumbing has taken several water quality tests for water chemistry to choose the correct unit to reduce nitrates. They are looking at a salt less system and are aware that the PR must be received by April 21, 2019. We also discussed the ongoing complaint about the water being salty, yellow and smelling like sewage. I took a water sample post treatment on 3/13 during a site visit and it looked ok but did have a sulfur odor. Hydrogen sulfide is common in this area and could explain the sulfur odor and yellowish coloration along with high iron. The lab reported that the was an unusual amount of precipitant in the samples which could be from elevated salts in the water. This could be related to the salts used in the ion exchange nitrate unit. I explained to the complainant that these are typically aesthetic concerns and not a health issue. The complainant is currently using bottled water for drinking. |
