Details: | On Tuesday, Sept 9th, I received an email from Brandon Ford that the lab had just notified him of a total coliform positive sample taken from the distribution system on Sept 8, 2025, from a sample site at reservoir 4 stone road. I called him and emailed him and spoke to Brandon, advising him to take 3 repeat samples according to his coliform sample plan and 1 triggered source sample from the well (Well #1 is the only active well). I sent him a copy of the coliform sample plan and the public notice templates should the repeat samples come back E. coli positive (5 confirmation samples would be needed from the well if the well came back E. coli positive). I also sent links to the Level 1 and Level 2 coliform investigation forms should one or both be needed. On Sept 10th, Brandon emailed me that he had taken the repeat samples to the lab. On Sept 11th, Brandon called me to let me know that the lab reported to him that all three repeat distribution system samples came back total coliform positive (no E. coli), but that the creek source triggered sample had tested positive for E. coli. I explained to him that the creek source is fully treated as a surface water source and that the triggered source sample should have been from the well (it is common for surface water sources to have coliform and e. coli, which is why filtration and disinfection is applied). I advised him to use the Level 1 coliform investigation form to try and determine the source of the total coliform in the distribution system and to take more repeat samples and a triggered sample from the well. He thought that the source could have been from a waterline break that occurred in an illegal service connection that was discovered to have been tapped into the system. Brandon said that he would review the Level 1 form and take repeat samples. 9-12-25 update - Brandon emailed source sample results for well #1 sampled on 9-11-25, which was absent of coliform bacteria. |
