Details: | TC positive on 09.10.2025 09.17.2025 The water system operator has confirmed that the four special (SP) water samples recently collected have been analyzed by Umpqua Lab and were found to be absent of coliform contamination. No further corrective action is required at this time. 09.15.2025 The operator informed me that the Special sample collected on Sept 11 tested TC positive. Also, the site of the TC positive test was a service line that has a reduce pressure backflow prevention assembly. Next steps: The operator is now collecting additional samples to pinpoint the source of the contamination. I have advised the operator to conduct more flushing of the line and to have the pressure backflow assembly tested. 09.12.2025 Instructed operator to collect 3 RP samples. Additional information provided via email regarding best management practices for water main repairs. The operator reported that he spoke with the supervisor who was on the scene. he clarified the following details: The crew filled out the initial paperwork correctly, including the free chlorine reading and labeling the sample as "Special." During the week, a change in forms by McCowan labs led to an error during the data transfer. The new form was missing both the chlorine reading and the sample type. The service line was repaired without pressure and the customer's service had been temporarily turned off. no boil advisory needed. The crew flushed the line for approximately 20 minutes, achieving a free chlorine measurement of 0.79 mg/L. Based on this information, the operator believes the coliform contamination was likely due to a dirty sample or handling error. Next steps: The operator contacted McCowan, and they are making the corrections on their side and will be resubmitting the lab report as a Special (SP) sample. If the sample is reclassified as SP, the system will only need to collect another SP sample to confirm absence of coliform contamination. |
