| Details: | Gates' operator let me know of the situation at the water system during the heavy rain event and recent flooding. December 18th: Turbidity levels on the North Santiam River at the WTP intake was over 100 NTU, plant was shut down from December 18-19. December 19th plant was running and the turbidity level at the intake was 70 NTU. Membrane filters are filtering most of the turbidity, and turbidity leaving the membrane filters is roughly 0.035 NTU. Flow through filters is lowered, and frequency of backwash has increased. Raw water straining is having trouble keeping up with turbidity so manual backwashes to clear out debris are increasing. Throughout the town, there is localized flooding and many downed trees. The ditch on the north side of the water plant driveway where the underground utilities are buried has been washed away. The utilities for the water plant are exposed. The has not affected the operation of the water plant but is a hazard. The operator is working on finding potential funding avenues for the flooding and heavy rain impacts. I recommended reaching out to Marion County emergency managers to see if they can offer assistance, as well as reaching out to BizOR for their water/wasterwater funding program. |
