Details: | Lenny and I spoke about the TC+ result for their May 1 routine coliform sample. He said he had reservations when he collected that sample because he was not able to sterilize the tap the way he is used to. This morning, he collected the 3 repeat samples and took them to the lab - they do not usually accept coliform samples on Fridays, so it will cost them extra. Lenny said he collected one repeat at the same tap as the routine, one at the first user after treatment and one towards the end of the distribution line. I explained that the EPA language is that one repeat should be collected "within 5 connections upstream" and one "within 5 connections downstream" of the initial routine sample location. He has the routine sampling locations on a map, but it does not sound like corresponding repeat locations have been written out for each routine site (as required). That written "coliform sampling plan" would allow anyone to step up and collect repeat samples within 24 hours if Lenny was unavailable. I will email an example template for a coliform sampling plan to Lenny and cc Hal Fitzgerald of the WD board. Also, I had noticed that the chlorine residual levels are only sometimes displayed in our database with the coliform results. Lenny said he measures and records the chlorine every time, so he does not know why it does not show up in our database. |
