Assistance Type: | OTHER WATER QUALITY - Cyanobacteria Bloom in Detroit Reservoir | ||
Reasons: | Cyanotoxins |
||
Details: | There is a cyanobacteria bloom in Detroit Reservoir. Cyanotoxin levels are not high enough for Oregon Health Authority to issue a recreational advisory, but USFS posted caution signs. The City of Salem updated their social media post on-line today to address any concerns from the public. The drinking water system is unaffected at this time. Salem has increased sampling and testing for cyanotoxins to five days a week, throughout the 26 mile stretch between Big Cliff Dam and the water treatment facility, and begun slightly boosting chlorine levels in the drinking water before it is tested leaving the water treatment facility. Salem's drinking water remains safe for all populations. The Cities of Stayton and Gates and the Lyons-Mehama Water District were notified of the bloom in the Detroit reservoir and Salem's social media posting. Staff from Linn and Marion Counties and the Dept of Agriculture were also notified. |
