Details: I received a call from the water lab that Silver Falls Country Store uses for their water samples. I was informed that their most recent quarterly routine water sample was positive for total coliform and E. coli. The lab indicated they had attempted to contact the the water system and had left a voicemail. I reached out to the store and was subsequently received a phone call from Junay Johansen, one of the store owners. I shared the test results with her and we reviewed the appropriate response.

As required by Drinking Water Rules, within 24 hours the system will:
  • Take a triggered sample at the source
  • Take 3 repeat samples at locations indicated on their total coliform sampling plan
  • In the following month (July), the system will take 3 temporary routine samples from the distribution system.
For this, not yet confirmed E. coli positive and in deference to the Oregon Retail Food Code, the store voluntarily agreed to :
  • Post a boil water notice at plumbing fixtures accessible to employees, tenants, and the public.
  • Boil water used for food service including warewashing and handwashing, or cease food service.
