Details: | I received a voice mail from Troy Trute on 8-26-19 regarding an elevated DBP level. I called Troy on 8-27-19 (I was out of the office on 8-26-19) and spoke to him about the last DBP sample taken on 8-7-19 showed that TTHMs were 0.0821 mg/l (HAA5s were 0.0431 mg/l). Troy said that he was wanting to make some changes to their disinfectant by switching to using MIOX (a proprietary blend of mixed oxidants). I suggested that they look into adding a coagulant as many membrane plants have needed to add a coagulant to remove soluble TOC to lower DBP levels. I recommended to Troy that he contact the membrane manufacturer (Evoqua) to see what options they recommend that would be compatible with their membranes and the SRF Technical Assistance Circuit Rider (Civil West) for assistance. I told Troy that quarterly DBP sampling will need to start and that lead and copper tap sampling may need to be increased following any treatment changes. On 8-27-19, I e-mailed Troy the increased DBP monitoring requirements, a link to the SRF Technical Assistance Circuit Rider, and the increased monitoring for lead and copper of two 6-month rounds at 10 tap samples following that would likely be needed following installation of MIOX and/or a coagulant to assess their impact on their existing corrosion control treatment. | ||
