| Details: | I received an alert for a total coliform positive routine sample taken 9/18/19. All 3 repeat samples taken 9/23/19 were absent of coliform bacteria. The system is an unfiltered surface water system needing to install filtration. Chlorine residual was also abnormally consistent at 0.2 mg/l in every monthly coliform sampling result since at least January 2016. I asked about these results and encouraged him to check on the sampling protocol used, the condition of the test equipment to look for for stained sample vials and expired DPD reagent. I asked about the treatment, which turns out to be a Viqua UV system, chlorine, and a sand filter. Mark said that the UV lamp is changed once each year and the chlorine residual target dose is around 1.5 mg/l. Mark said most people do not drink the water due to taste and odor concerns. I reminded Mark about taking 3 routine coliform samples this month due to the positive sample last month and made a referral to the DWS small systems specialist (Daniel Hough) for further follow-up. | ||
