Details: | 9/30/19 email from r hallmark to j menendez John, Because all 5 of the recent source samples showed E. coli present, I am suggesting a focus around the spring collection box. The gaps in the cistern and holes in the top panel need to be fixed eventually, but the state is most concerned with source contamination first. 1. Provide enough fill and enough slope to eliminate the small water puddles near the spring box. 2. Clean away overhead vegetation from above the spring box lid. 3. Make sure the lid to the spring box fits snug so vegetation can’t grow into it, dirt or mud can't splatter into it from someone kicking around it or of from the rain and a small critter or insect cannot crawl inside 4. Spray the sidewalls and ceiling and the lid of the spring box with a light chlorine solution. Make the inside of the tank clean. 5. Clean around the drain for the spring box and in the drain pipe too as much as possible. 6. Give the chlorine a few days to drain out. (make sure you let some chlorine sit in the drain pipe for a few hours). 7. Consider bringing enough water from town to rinse the tank interior free of any chlorine residue. 8. Let the chlorine drain out for several days. It all needs to be gone. 9. Let me know when all the above is done 10. Take a couple samples from the drain pipe of the spring box. These samples are marked “SPECIAL” Make sure you give me a copy of the boil water notice that is hanging up on the door of the community center. |
