Details: | A total coliform alert was received at approximately the same time that Joann Hansen sent an email requesting clarification on the requirement to sample for IOC, VOC, etc. by year's end if Wildwood Estates connects to the public water system Coos Bay North Bend Water Board in December 2019 (and discontinues use of the well-source now in use). The following email was sent in response on 11/4/19: Joann, Because the routine sample taken 10/31 showed the presence of total coliform bacteria, you want to do the follow-up sampling of 3 repeat samples (1 from the same site used last week, 1 upstream within a few connections and 1 downstream within a few connections) AND a sample from the wellhead is also expected AND before the end of November, 3 temporary routine samples are required. IF ANY OF THE 3 REPEAT SAMPLES SHOW COLIFORM BACTERIA PRESENT, IT MAKES it appear THERE IS A LEGITIMATE PROBLEM and makes it important to fix the problem before the temporary routine samples are collected. As for your question about sampling for the numerous chemical compounds due by the end of 2019: I recommend DO NOT SAMPLE FOR THOSE COMPOUNDS as long as you are confident that connection to CBNB water board will be successful within the next few months. When the connection is successful with CBNB, according to the current rule, minimum sampling requirements will include monthly total coliform, DBP annually in summer and Pb/Cu every 3 years near the end of summer. |
