Details: | Twilight View Estates water system was tested for copper content and was found to have exceed the copper action level (AL) of 1.3 mg/L. The results were first received by the state on May 3rd, 2002 and subsequently on October 8th, 2010 and September 1st, 2016. Notice of exceeding the AL was given to the water system on February 1st, 2018. Part of the requirement of this notice was that the water system needed to receive a recommendation from a water system engineer for an optimal corrosion control treatment. After researching the system and the constituents of their source water, it was determined that adding caustic soda to increase the pH to 7.0 and a phosphate blend to form a film on the inside surface of the distribution pipe would be the most cost effective way to reduce the copper levels and corrosion throughout the water system. Caustic Soda can be added immediately after the well head using a chemical metering pump. Adjust feed quantity until a pH of 7.0 is reached. Initially, this should be monitored frequently to ensure that the feed rate is correct. Read and follow all SDS recommendations. It is recommended that Carus 4500 be used as the phosphate blend. It is recommended that an initial dose of 2 mg/L of orthophosphate residual be used in the distribution system. This will require 5.30 gallons of CARUS™ 4500 per million gallons of water. This should be injected post-treatment using a chemical metering pump. A HACH test kit is used to measure orthophosphate in the system. The typical field kit is #2248-00. Read and follow all SDS recommendations. Memo to Reggie on August 7th, 2019. |
