Details: | Hopewell Water Company started in 1914. The system is gravity fed from two artesian spring. A Well was installed but not yet approved. The new well is off-line and needs approval of OHA Plan review. Johnathan Smith was their acting Engineer. OHenry reviewed CT Study and it was approved by OHA. Hopewell is considering two possible stream crossings. Possible Environmental Impact Statement required. Currently 10 metered residents. Current operator is Steve Aldrich, and he owns the water rights. Met with Steve Aldrich onsite, who gave a tour of the system and explained the degrading system issues they are having for their intake and distribution network. Based on our discussion and the Hopewell’s needs, it was decided that due to the large scale of project and potential for environmental impact document requirements, a feasibility study should be done to address the best path forward to improve the system. To improve the system functionality, outlined below are discussed improvements to be considered. 1. Current well is offline and needs approval from OHA Plan Review 2. Approximately 2 miles of 104-year-old pipe needs to be replaced and alignment reviewed to improve condition and reduce private property crossings. 3. Feasibility of modifying existing artesian intake structure is needed to bring spring into compliance. Feasibility of 20,000-gal reservoir at known proposed location to match hydraulic head of another reservoir. Well Plan Review Assistance LOI |
