Details: | SUMMARY: Discussed PR on 520,000 gal reservoir and DBP issues. DETAILS: Thomas Merrell called to let me know that he was about to send in the plans for the 520,000 gallon reservoir. We also discussed their DBP levels. It was first thought that by replacing their redwood tank, the DBP levels would decrease, however, the tank has been off-line since the end of summer 2004 and their levels are still around 0.1 mg/l for TTHM. He said that they were looking at trying some fast acting polymers to address their raw water TOC, which is about 1.17 to 1.45 mg/l. They are maintaining a chlorine residual at first user of 0.8 - 1.2 mg/l because they have a lot of chlorine demand due to long residence times, 5 miles of distribution lines, and more dead end lines. They have increased distribution system flushing to twice per year. I told him that he could expect a letter from me regarding their elevated DBP levels that would outline the steps they need to take from here (depending on if the MCL was violated). ACTION NEEDED: Thomas to send in plan review information regarding the reservoir. DWP to evaluate DBP levels and issue letter of recommendations/requirements. |
