Details: | SUMMARY: + total coliform and e. coli special sample collected at Well #3 1/15/2006. DETAILS: I have started receiving the monthly special raw coliform samples collected at each well currently in use according to the AO extention 9/28/2005. The most recent special raw sample collected from Well #3 on 1/15/2006 was positive for total coliform and e. coli bacteria. The follow-up sample collected 1/17/2006 was positive only for total coliform bacteria. The routine coliform sample collected in the distribution on 1/15/2006 was negative for bacteria. I spoke with Myles Butner and left a message for Andy Cole. I confirmed with Myles that well #3 has a dedicated line direct to the concrete storage tank and is used to provide turn over in the tank. The concrete tank is chlorinated via water from the redwood tank. The redwood tank is chlorinated via water from a direct line from Well #16 along with unchlorinated water from a direct line from Well #7. After speaking with Chris Hughes about this situation, we agreed that the contact time provided in the concrete tank is sufficient to inactivate the bacteria from Well #3 and that public notice is not necessary. I advised Myles to shut down Well #3 in order to shock chlorinate and flush to waste. I also told Myles to increase the chlorine in the system to assure it met the 0.2 mg/L requirement throughout the system (particularly the end of the system). Myles stated he would assure these items are completed and is also working with contractors from OAWU for assistance in wellhead inspections and upgrades. ACTION NEEDED: Continue to track special raw samples as required by the AO. Continue to check free chlorine residuals with operator, on test results and on-site when possible. |
