Details: | SUMMARY: Update on arsenic sampling requirements and anion exchange treatment. DETAILS: I was notified of an alert at this system for arsenic at 0.0100 mg/L sampled 12/23/2005. I checked the systems past sample results and found that they did not consistently submit arsenic sample results post anion exchange treatment on a quarterly basis. I called Joel Stewart and reminded him that they are required to sample for arsenic quarterly. Joel faxed to me missing 2nd quarter 2005 results (0.020 mg/L) and admitted missing sampling altogether during 3rd quarter 2005. I told him that I would put him on a quarterly schedule in sdwis and he would start to acrue violations if he missed sampling again in the future. Also, Joel said that after installing the anion exchange (by ECO Water), the results have steadily been dropping. He has not been using his arsenic test kit because he has found it to be difficult to use and doesnt trust the results. He is thinking of sampling monthly for arsenic instead of using the test kit as required by plan review (letter from Tom Charbonneau 8/4/2004). He also has plans to install aeration if the running annual average of quarterly samples for 2006 exceed the new MCL of 0.010 mg/L. ACTION NEEDED: Watch for quarterly arsenic results in 2006 and follow-up with public notice and further treatment requirements if necessary. Added treatment code to sdwis too. |
