Details: | SUMMARY: Lead Exceedence in August 2005 DETAILS: City of Westfir exceeded the 90th % for lead during sampling 8/16/2005 (with a sample at the Post Office of 0.030 mg/L lead). The Post Office was sampled 5/16/2001 with a result of 0.009 mg/L lead and again 9/24/2002 with a result of 0.006 mg/L lead. No plumbing changes had occurred recently and their treatment process had not changed. The pH, temperature and treated turbidity for that day (8/16) was consistent. On 01/30/06, Chris Hughes and I decided that given their past sampling results, we would require the City to collect five replacement lead/copper samples as soon as possible using the tiered sampling location approach stated in our rules which would exclude the Post Office location. The new round would replace the 8/16/05 round. I informed Myron of this compliance approach and faxed to him the sampling location tier information from our rules. Myron believes he may have a hard time finding sampling locations because most of the residences in the City were built while the mills were in operation in the 60s and 70s. He will contact me as soon as he gets the sample results. See contact report dated 01/30/06 for more info. ACTION NEEDED: Await new round of 5 samples from appropriate tiered sampling locations. If results are acceptable, propose to replace 8/16/05 round of samples with re-sample results. If results again exceed lead and/or copper, begin public education, water quality parameter testing and source water testing. |
