Assistance Type: | OTHER REGULATORY - Psi reporting and filter clogging | ||
Details: | I noticed on the monthly treatment reports, the "PSI pre-filter" column was always 70 psi, every day. I phoned up David to ask him where he was measuring that pressure. He said it was before the Kinetico iron/media filter, so basically before the sedimentation tank and the entire filter train, not just before their final Strainrite cartridge filter. So the 70 psi amount just showed the pressure coming right from the pump. I explained that what counts for compliance with the treatment standards is the final Strainrite filter and how well it is functioning. We can tell if they are changing that compliance filter per the manufacturer's specifications if they are reporting the pressure on either side of that filter. He said he would start reporting the pressure on either side of the Strainrite filter on the February report (they already have a pressure gauge there). David also reported that lately he is having a hard time keeping up with changing out the Strainrite filter while the stream runs high - changing it every day or every two days. That sounds WAY too often. He said the school spent $16,000 in filters last year. We did some trouble-shooting, and decided to refer the issue to the Circuit Rider. But two days later, David reported that merely vacuuming out the sedimentation tank (between the Kinetico and the pre-filters) had drastically reduced the sediment load going into the cartridge filters. For now, he is now going to clean out that sedimentation tank more often and see if that solves the problem. |
