Details: | SUMMARY: Action plan for corrosion control / lead exceedence DETAILS: John called because the Corrective action plan for South Fork is due October 1st and he wanted to go over what they were going to say. Basically, they have collected water quality parameters and verified that soda ash is an approved approach. They have started adding soda ash up front to try to stabilize the alkalinity / pH, which had been varying quite widely in the distribution. Currently the pre and post soda ash feed is from the same feeder, with 2 separate lines. They will budget adding a second feeder so that they have separate control, but due to the high cost, they cannot do it right away. CH2M Hill is working with them on the plan. They are also planning to do a study of the Clackamas River water and try to ascertain why other water suppliers using the Clackamas have been having trouble suddenly meeting the lead action level. That study likely wouldnt begin until the next fiscal year, or July 2007. I told him we understand that large projects take more time for budgeting, and it isnt as though they havent done anything. They took some unofficial samples at some of the high homes after adding pre-soda ash, and the levels were about 25% less, which was encouraging. They also know they have to do the public education annually if the problem isnt resolved by then. ACTION NEEDED: await corrective action plan letter |
