Details: | SUMMARY: Coliform positiive sample results distribution system T/A DETAILS: PWS has had numerous TC positive bacteriological results since January, 2006.Linn County staff have visited the system several times since then and found that 2 septic tanks had failed and were discharging sewage onto the ground and sewage was also backing up into some residences. This occurred during the winder and with heavy rains could have impacted the groundwater with coliform contamination. The septic tanks were repaired, however TC positive sample persisted into June, 2006. Linn County has established a compliance plan with the water system addressing additional monitoring and distribution system mapping. Actions Performed - John Potts visited the system on September 8, 2006 at the request of Linn County for follow-up. I inspected both wells that are used (Well 1 and Well 4) and discussed distribution system flushing and location of lines. The system does not have any established blow offs and apparently only one dead end line according to Mr. Cistone. The piping material is PVC without tracer wire attached so positive location is very difficult. He has based his mapping on line breaks and discussions with the previous maintenance man. I also discussed basic O & M procedures with him. ACTION NEEDED: I will prepare and send a report to Mr. Cistone briefly outlining standard operating procedure assisting him to establish a program for the water system to follow. I will also recommend locations in the distribution system for blow offs to be installed. I will also recommend some minor modifications to the well heads regarding piping arrangements. |
