Details: | SUMMARY: high turbidity - slow sand filter off line DETAILS: Frank called on 11/7 to report that heavy rains had caused the turbidity to spike in the creek, and they had to turn the slow sand filter plant off. Finished water turbidity was still at 0.06 NTU. Due to limited storage capabilities (estimated at about 30 hours of normal demand), the District issued a conservation notice. The District attempted to run a low flow of water through the SSF, but it plugged up right away and they had to scrape the mud off. On 11/9, the turbidity of the stream had dropped to 0.4 NTU. They began filtering the water again. Finished water turbidity was at 0.06 NTU and chlorine residual was above 1 ppm. Water served to customers met standards at all times. They will wait and see if more heavy rains affect the creek in the same way. Previously the peak turbidity in the creek had only been less than 1 NTU. |
