Details: SUMMARY: Information regarding chlorine residual DETAILS: In a discussion with Gary Burnett, DHS Drinking Water Program, the following was discussed and agreed upon. Lost River seems to be chlorinating for the source (not just for distribution). To find out why a system is chlorinating, look under treatment on the website. If it says disinfection, they are chlorinating for the source. If it says residual maintenance, they are simply chlorinating to keep the distribution system nice and clean. The residual should be checked every day and recorded at the first water user (where the first drink of water can be obtained in the school). The residual should be kept at 0.5-1.0 at this site, always. This is because it is unknown if adequate contact time exists. 4.0 is the highest the chlorine should ever be for drinking water. After that, the rest of the distribution system should have at least a trace of chlorine, when checked. The coliform sample should be taken at a site that is used often and the residual entered on the test paperwork should be the residual where the sample is taken. This information was given to Larry Hansen. Larry said he would insure this is what happens at Lost River. ACTION NEEDED: None
