Details: | SUMMARY: Water quality alert- coliform DETAILS: The Hood River County Health Department received an alert by email on Friday, May 4, 2007 for the USFS Wyeth CG in response to a positive result for a routine coliform sample collected May 2, 2007-- the sample was negative for E. coli. The routine sample was collected as one of five routine samples collected in response to positive total coliform sample results found during routine and repeat bacteriological monitoring in April. The HRCHD contacted the DRC on Friday, May 4, 2007 and again on Monday, May 7, 2007 to ensure that repeat samples were collected. HRCHD advised the DRC to post a public notice accordingly. The DRC also indicated that a water expert would be hired by the USFS to conduct a root cause investigation. There remains the possibility that the positive sample collected May 2, 2007 was contaminated at the time of collection. ACTION NEEDED: The Hood River County Health Department will continue to work with the USFS Wyeth Campground to assure repeat samples are collected until results are negative for coliform bacteria. Reminders will be provided to assure that 5 routine samples are collected in the subsequent month (June 2007) and that all monitoring results are submitted to the department for entry into the SDWIS database. |
