Details: | SUMMARY: boil water notice DETAILS: System called 8/28/07 to report no water, loss of pressure. A Boil water notice was posted on 8/29/07 due to loss of pressure. On 9/11/07 Darrell Lockard of OAWU assisted me in a site visit, I took 5 samples and walked the entire system, looking at the spring and storage tank to try to determine why system is loosing pressure and where the coliform might be coming from. After looking at the storage tank and spring box for nearly an hour, we hypothesized that the system did not have a leak in their distribution system because the pump came on only once to pressurize the distribution system. If there were a leak in the distribution system the pump would be turning on more often. I took pictures of the tank that was very dirty with moss growing inside. The five routine samples that I took came back absent for total coliform. Judy stated that her son Shawn was turning off the pump at night and back on in the morning to avoid running out of water. This idea did not make sense to Darrel, or myself, I advised Judy to not turn off the pump any more. At this point the water system is back in compliance as long as they show consistent absent results for bacteria and keep at least 20 psi pressure at all times. ACTION NEEDED: continue to take quarterly coliform samples. |
