Details: | SUMMARY: Water quality problem assistance DETAILS: System ran out of water when well pump quit working. Motor was repaired. A white substance began showing up at a customers services and numerous complaints were received. A test from a washing machine water supply line showed human hair and carpet fiber in water. I discussed the problem history with Gary Burnett and then I contacted Wendy at the system. Found that motor was rewound and pump capacity was unchanged. She indicated that white substance was found to be sand and minerals. Coliform tests were negative. No explanation of hairs and fibers. I found that the system ran out of water a second time when the pump was left off, but golf course irrigation was conducted. She indicated that well and tank were shock chlorinated as a precaution. Recommended that additional tests be taken at kitchen sink faucets to verify the no hair is found and to get additional tests on white substance. I also recommended testing for H2S. The white minerals could be coming from hot water heaters that were run dry causing the minerals to scale off of the heating elements. I also recommended additional flushing beginning at hydrants closest to storage tank and working outwards towards the ends of the system using each hydrant and blow-off. ACTION NEEDED: Contact Wendy and system operator to schedule site visit if needed. |
