Details: | SUMMARY: System requested assistance with set up and operation of a new chlorinator feed pump DETAILS: Several months ago the City began getting complaints of “too much chlorine” in the water, so a previous operator disconnected and removed the chlorine feed pump. During July and August 2007 several water samples tested positive for total coliform. The City now has a new operator and a new chlorine feed pump. HBH was requested to assist the new operator with set up and operation of the new chlorine pump. I Met with Dave Wilson 10/24/07. I advised on installation, calibration and operation of the new pump, on the type of chlorine to use and where to get it, on the use of protective equipment to use and provided a MSDA for the product. I met with Ms Eynetich and Mr Wilson at City Hall to review other operation and management issues including reservoir cleaning, operator certification, monitoring, Consumer Confidence Reports and Cross Connection issues. I followed up with a call to the City on 11/2/07 and learned the reservoir was cleaned this summer and the City is planning to wait until next spring to activate the chlorinator as long as the coliform tests are consistently good. ACTION NEEDED: The City needs to maintain good coliform testing or activate the chlorinator feed system. They also need to prepare and distribute a CCR for 2006, complete and submit the cross connection Annual Summary Report for 2006, and the operator needs to attend the training for small groundwater systems and submit an application to the state for certification. |
