Details: | Water system has both copper and DBP issues. The previous circuit rider request assisted with the DBP issue by recommending running the water storage tanks at a much lower volume in an effort to diminish contact time to diminish the time that DBPs are given to form in storage. The copper issue at the time was thought to be due to incorrect testing procedure by the homeowner, however later testing with a supervised test procedure also came back from the lab with a copper level in exceedance of the MCL. Assistance Provided: Additional water sampling was done to determine the proper method for corrosion control. In following the EPA guidelines, it was determined that given the parameters of the well water, that orthophosphate would be the recommended remedy for the corrosion issue. The circuit rider recommends that the Water Association look into air stripping as a means to raise the pH of the raw well water. The first step in this would be strongly aerate a small (5-gallons) sample of raw water and monitor pH of both the sample and the control to determine if dissolved co2 is an issue. If a considerable increase in pH is seen in the aerated sample, an air-stripper may be a better, non-chemical means of corrosion control than orthophosphate injection. Follow-Up Actions Needed: Circuit Rider to support as needed in the future. |
