Details: | SUMMARY: Corrosion Assistance DETAILS: Operator contacted HBH with questions of how to raise pH slightly within the distribution system to reduce potential for corrosion. Recent tests results include a lead concentration of 0.0180 mgl. The action level for lead is 0.0155 mgl. He indicated that DWP staff recommended aiming for a pH of about 7.2. Normal pH levels in the system are reportedly between 6.8 and 7.0. I investigated options for chemical treatment to raise pH. I consulted with Guy Holzworth, the Neskowin WTP operator. He uses soda ash for similar pH adjustment as desired at Grandview MHP. Called operator back and gave the following recommendations. 1. Using dry soda ash, mix to a 1 percent solution by adding 10.5 cups soda ash to 50 gallons of water. This solution should have a pH of 11.4. 2. Set initial feed rate of about 0.5 gallons per day. 3. Adjust dosage as required to achieve desired pH. ACTION NEEDED: None |
