Details: | SUMMARY: High chlorine residual DETAILS: Jim Anderson called today with a problem with high chlorine residual. He said that on Monday March 31st a piece broke on their main chlorinator. The part will take one and a half weeks to get in. He replaced the chlorinator with a spare chlorinator at 2.5 gph, which he said was smaller than their normal chlorinator. He set the speed and stroke at about 50%. On Tuesday morning the chlorine residual was 0.82 ppm. By Tuesday afternoon the residual in the same location was 4.09 ppm. He changed the feed pump setting to 25%, but today the reading is 5.2 ppm. He shut off the chlorinator to try to dilute the chlorine concentration in the tank. After some confusion, it was determined that this is an acceptable practice as long as someone is there checking the effluent chlorine concentration. They need disinfection, not just residual maintenance. Calculations determined that at a 50% setting using 12.5% chlorine, that would be a concentration of 8.3 ppm. I called HBH to see if they could help with the situation, and they will try to send someone out. Jim was planning to stay into the evening until he had it figured out. ACTION NEEDED: Water system will need to do a Tier 2 public notice within 30 days | ||
